President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed Egypt’s keenness to attract foreign direct investments in the field of new and renewable energy as part of its commitment to the global goals of environmental protection and combating global warming.
The president’s remarks came as he received the chief executive officers of a number of Belgian companies, including the DEME Dredging Company and the Antwerp Port Company, in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, a number of ministers and the Belgian ambassador in Cairo.
During the meeting, the president stressed the need to benefit from the diverse natural resources that Egypt enjoys in this field to serve the development process and energy-intensive heavy industries.
For their side, members of the Consortium of the Belgian companies expressed their honour at meeting the president and stressed the great interest of Europe in expanding the production, transport and storage of green hydrogen as part of the efforts to remove and reduce carbon emissions.
They also highlighted their keenness to co-operate with Egypt in this field, noting Egypt’s ideal natural resources as well as the favourable investment and development climate that it currently enjoys under the auspices of the president make this trend successful.
Also yesterday, the president held a separate meeting with the CEO of the Belgian DEME Dredging Company and a number of senior officials of the company, in the presence of PM Madbouli, Minister of Agriculture el-Sayed el-Qusier and Commander of the Navy Ahmed Khaled.
During the meeting, the president emphasised the importance the state attaches to the national project for the comprehensive development of Lake Bardawil as part of a comprehensive plan aimed at developing all Egyptian lakes and restoring their previous normal condition.
For his part, DEME CEO stressed his company’s aspiration to co-operate with Egypt in developing Lake Bardawil, taking into account the expected positive results of this project in view of the unique location of Lake Bardawil on the Mediterranean Sea and its high-quality fish wealth.
He underscored in this respect the positive impact on the ongoing development of North Sinai region in creating job opportunities, restoring the environmental balance of the lake, improving the type and quality of water, and achieving food security.
