Ways of boosting relations and multi-faceted co-operation between Egypt and Malaysia were the subject of consideration during a video call that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received from Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday.
The furtherance of co-operation was considered in light of the historical ties and distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
In this context, reference was made to efforts in the cultural, tourism and educational fields, Spokesman Fahmy said.
Regarding economic relations and trade exchanges, President Sisi and the Malaysian prime minister reviewed the means of strengthening and promoting these relations as well as the prospects of increasing joint investments in the sectors of energy, communications and information technology, the auto industry, the spokesman said.
Also reviewed in this respect, Spokesman Fahmy said, were the other areas that can contribute to maximising the utilisation of the comparative advantages of each country, and achieving economic integration and comprehensive development.
In the course of the video call, visions were exchanged on the most prominent regional and international issues of common interest and ways to achieve security and stability in the Middle East and at the international level, in light of the major challenges the world is witnessing, Spokesman Fahmy said.
The two sides also stressed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation at international fora, to deal with various issues, including combating terrorism and extremism at all levels, especially the intellectual and cultural ones, the spokesman said.
The Malaysian prime minister paid tribute to Egypt’s key role in this connection and expressed profound valuation of al-Azhar and moderate Islamic institutions for their pioneering efforts, Spokesman Fahmy said.
