Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call on Saturday from his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
They discussed the escalating situation in the Middle East and explored ways to de-escalate tensions and promote calm, Presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in a statement.
The two leaders emphasized the need for restraint and called for an end to mutual hostilities that are pushing the region towards a broader conflict, which threatens the safety of all its people.
They also reviewed efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, stressing the urgent need for sufficient humanitarian aid delivery.
Additionally, they underscored the importance of respecting Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, reiterating their support for Lebanon’s state institutions.
The conversation reaffirmed strong strategic relations between Egypt and France, highlighting their commitment to continued cooperation, especially in economic and investment sectors, while maintaining ongoing consultations on mutual interests.
