Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has hailed as strategic relations between Egypt and Greece.
Cairo is keen on further boosting bilateral ties with Athens, as well as a trilateral cooperation mechanism between both of them and Nicosia, Sisi said in a telephone conversation with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis Wednesday.
Mitsotakis stressed that his country is looking forward to invigorating joint cooperation during Sisi’s new term in office, said presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
Greece also seeks to continue negotiating with Egypt about the successive developments in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East regions, Fahmy quoted Mitsotakis as having said.
The two leaders discussed the situation in Gaza, with Sisi pointing out Egypt’s efforts to reach a ceasefire and deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave, the spokesman said.
Sisi also stressed the need for the world community to live up to its responsibilities to end the suffering of the Palestinian people and save them from the evolving humanitarian tragedy in Gaza, Fahmy added.
The Greek premier said Athens greatly appreciates the role played by Cairo to reach a humanitarian pause in the war, the spokesman said.
He added that the two leaders agreed to continue coordination to entrench security and stability in the region.
