Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi hailed Egypt’s well-established historical relations with Italy and expressed its keenness to boost bilateral co-operation in various fields.
The president’s remarks came as he received on Tuesday a number of heads of Italian mining companies in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli as well as a host of top government officials and the Italian ambassador in Cairo, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
During the meeting, the president highlighted Egypt’s interest in attracting investments of major Italian companies in the mining and manufacturing sectors, with the aim of increasing the added industrial value and localising industry, transfer of knowledge and technology and building Egyptian capacities in these most advanced industries.
This, he added, comes in a way that opens broad horizons for the national economy to provide more job opportunities and increase production and exports to various countries of the world.
The meeting also reviewed prospects for co-operation with Italian companies to maximise the utilisation of Egypt’s mineral resources, in light of the great success of the industrial co-operation between Egypt and Italy in the Ain Sukhna quartz production complex project, which was inaugurated by the president last May.
Officials of the Italian companies expressed their aspiration to intensify efforts towards deepening co-operation with Egypt, noting that careful follow-up on the part of President Sisi of the efforts to increase private investment reflects the state’s keenness to achieve a real breakthrough in this field. They also affirmed their commitment to strengthening fruitful co-operation with Egypt in the field of mining activities.
