Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met Wednesday with visiting Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman al-Safadi to discuss joint efforts to reach calm in the region.
The two sides reiterated the need to intensify serious international efforts toward an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, said presidential spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.
They also discussed the importance of delivering enough humanitarian assistance to Gaza to solve the aggravating humanitarian crisis there, Fahmy added.
Sisi and Safadi pressed, yet again, for establishing an independent Palestinian state on the pre-1967 borders, insisting this would be the main guarantee to sustainable peace and stability in the region, the spokesman noted.
They underscored the risk of military escalation, which will further complicate the situation and seriously threaten regional security and people’s capabilities, he said.
Safadi conveyed Jordanian King Abdullah’s best regards to President Sisi, who expressed his great appreciation for close, historical relations between Cairo and Amman.
