Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Tuesday inspected the petroleum gouna zone in Alexandria Port to get acquainted with latest developments in the area.
Sisi listened to a detailed explanation by Petroleum Minister Tareq el Mulla about development rates of ports in Egypt, including six ports in the Mediterranean Sea and their counterparts in the Gulf of Suez in the Red Sea.
The move is part of an action plan to turn Egypt into a regional centre for circulation of oil and gas, said Mulla.
Egyptian Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tareq el Mulla said the petroleum gouna zone in Alexandria Port includes five piers, adding efforts are under way to increase their capacity, in addition to upgrading the night service.
Mulla said the current capacity of the piers reached nearly 7 million tonnes per year and will increase to 12 million tonnes per year following finalising piers 1 and 2.
The plan aims at completing piers 1 and 2 in January, 2022 and the other piers will be finalised at the beginning of 2023, added Mulla.
