CAIRO- Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Friday made an inspection tour of projects to establish simi-wholesale markets in Cairo.
The projects were launched under the state’s keenness to control markets, reduce prices, and improve the level of services provided to citizens, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said in a statement following the tour.
The tour included new main markets implemented by the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces in Nasr City, Mokattam, Al-Amal neighbourhoods, and the Al-Shams club market in Heliopolis of Cairo governorate.
Up to five sites are being constructed, an official told Sisi.
Semi-wholesale markets sell goods to consumers at lower prices, Sisi said.
We create test models. If successful, the experiment will be rolled out across Egypt, he added.
Sisi also inspected the under-construction 7-kilometre-long Abdel Megeid Mahmoud Axis, linking El Shaheed Axis to the Yasser Rizk Axis in Mokattam, reaching Salah Salem Street, Civilization Axis, and the Nile Corniche.
It is one of three axes established in Mokattam to facilitate the movement of citizens and reduce traffic jams.
