Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi arrived in Doha on Tuesday on an official two-day visit to Qatar. He was received at the airport by the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The visit, the first of its kind by President Sisi to Qatar, is the culmination of the intensive mutual discussions between the two countries, with the aim of strengthening the frameworks of joint bilateral co-operation at all levels.
During the visit, President Sisi will discuss with the Emir of Qatar, the most important aspects of bilateral relations as well as consultation and coordination on various regional and international issues of common interest during the current stage, which require concerted efforts to protect Arab national security.
Meanwhile, Qatari Ambassador in Egypt Salem Mubarak Al Shafi affirmed the significance of President Sisi’s visit, noting that it reflects the level of excellence that the relations between the two countries have reached.
In a statement on this occasion, Ambassador Al Shafi told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that the visit comes as part of the positive momentum witnessed in the relations between Doha and Cairo, which culminated in the visit of Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Egypt in June, and the summit talks that the Qatari Emir held with President Sisi, which focused on ways to enhance the bilateral co-operation in various fields, in addition to regional and international issues and files of mutual interest.
The Qatari ambassador also said that the entire world is undergoing exceptional circumstances, with many lingering conflicts and wars. These challenges require activating the diplomatic role and continuous consultation between the leaderships of the two countries in order to exchange views and discuss the best way to address these issues.
In a related context, the ambassador also commended the progress and dynamism in co-operation between the two countries in economic, tourism and sports sectors.
President Sisi’s visit to Qatar comes within the framework of the growing good relations between the two countries and their brotherly peoples, and as an affirmation of the mutual keenness and common willingness of the leaderships of both countries to develop and bolster these relations and advance them towards broader horizons in various fields, he said.
President Sisi’s visit to Doha is of particular importance in terms of its timing, as it comes before the launch of the Arab League Summit in Algeria in November and the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. It also coincides with a number of accelerating international developments, particularly with regard to the situation and developments in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine.
These developments require increasing and intensifying consultation and coordination between both countries regarding all developments and various issues affecting Arab security, aspirations and legitimate rights of the brotherly Arab peoples, to achieve Arab unity and regional security and stability, as well as serving Arab interests and positions in various forums and boosting their steadfastness in confronting all challenges and dangers.
The Qatari-Egyptian ties are anchored in a firm belief in the unity of objectives and common destiny, and the important strategic dimension and weight the two sides represent for each other.
Bilateral relations are based on deeply-rooted and sincere historic bonds between both countries and their brotherly peoples in several political, social and economic sectors.
Over the long history of relations with Egypt, Qatar has been keen to build these relations on mutual appreciation and respect in view of Egypt’s prestigious value based on its long history.
Relations between both countries are governed by a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding that cover political, commercial, economic and labour sectors as well as the promotion and protection of mutual investments in addition to air transport, youth, sports, education, scientific research, the media and cultural fields and cultural and archaeological co-operation.
