President to meet Belgium king, EU leaders, officials
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi flew in to Brussels on Tuesday, marking the start of his official visit to Belgium and leading Egypt’s delegation in the first-ever Egypt–EU Summit, scheduled to convene on Wednesday.
President Sisi was received upon arrival by the Belgian deputy minister and secretary-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, director of protocol at the European Council, director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, director of protocol at Brussels Military Airport and Egypt’s ambassador to Belgium and members of the Egyptian Embassy in Brussels.
According to the Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy, the convening of this historic summit marks the culmination of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU, which was officially launched in Cairo in March 2024. The summit, he added, also reflects the shared commitment of both sides to advancing regional stability and mutual prosperity.
During the visit, President Sisi is scheduled to hold a series of meetings with senior European Union officials, as well as a number of European leaders. Additionally, the president will meet with His Majesty the King of Belgium, said the spokesman.
He noted that the president’s visit aims to consolidate frameworks of co-operation and political coordination with both the EU and Belgium on regional and international issues of common concern.
The visit also carries a major economic dimension, as it will feature a large-scale economic forum focused on investment opportunities in Egypt.
The forum will bring together leading European companies and business executives, underscoring Egypt’s growing role as a regional hub for trade and investment.
Discussions will also address Egypt’s comprehensive approach to combating irregular migration, alongside other key issues of shared interest that continue to define the strong and evolving partnership between Egypt and the EU.
Before his residence in Brussels, members of the Egyptian communities in Belgium and neighbouring European countries gathered to welcome Egyptian President Sisi upon his arrival.
Waving Egyptian flags and holding portraits of the president, the crowd chanted patriotic songs and voiced support for Egypt’s leadership.
President Sisi greeted and thanked the assembled expatriates for their warm reception.
