Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and US Vice President Kamala Harris reviewed Saturday the latest regional developments, topped by the ongoing situation in Gaza.

During a meeting on the margins of their participation in the 28th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP 28) in Dubai today, Sisi and Harris reaffirmed a joint commitment to deepening the longstanding partnership between both countries, which serves as a linchpin for security and stability in the Middle East.

Briefing the president on her country’s views regarding the situation in the embattled Palestinian Gaza Strip, Harris voiced appreciation of Egypt’s relentless efforts to thrash out a ceasefire agreement and a prisoner swap deal between the conflicting parties, according to Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy.

She also commended Egypt’s pivotal in facilitating the delivery of lifesaving humanitarian assistance to people in need in the besieged coastal enclave.

The two sides agreed on the urgent need to work for preventing a spillover of the conflict to neighboring areas and protecting innocent civilians.

They also emphasized the two countries’ categorical rejection of any measures leading to any form of forced displacement of Palestinians.

Meanwhile, Sisi called on the international community to immediately intervene to provide urgent relief and assistance to the people of Gaza, stressing the need to restore calm in the war-ravaged enclave.

He also reiterated Egypt’s rejection of Israel’s collective punishment policy against innocent Palestinians, the spokesman noted.

Sisi also reasserted Egypt’s unwavering stance as regards the need to find a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian problem, in such a manner that guarantees all the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to build their own independent state as per relevant international resolutions.
