CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at Ittihadiya Palace Wednesday Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the sidelines of the 10th Summit of Egypt-Cyprus-Greece Trilateral Cooperation Mechanism.

Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy said the two sides underlined the depth and strength of historical relations binding Egypt and Greece.

President Sisi and the Greek prime minister said they are looking forward to maintaining joint action and partnership, added Shennawy.

The spokesman said the meeting discussed ways of enhancing bilateral co-operation on all fronts, with special focus on the economic sphere.

They emphasized the necessity of intensifying bilateral cooperation within the East Mediterranean Gas Forum (EMGF), Shennawy said, adding they are also seeking to implement the electrical interconnection project between Egypt and Greece.

The meeting probed as well the latest regional developments, including the situation in Palestine.

Egypt and Greece reiterated keenness on reaching a ceasefire deal and securing the delivery of humanitarian assistance into the war-torn Gaza Strip along with the implementation of the two-state solution.

They also asserted the importance of avoiding escalation in the region and realizing calm and stability.

Shennawy said both sides exchanged viewpoints on the situation in Syria, Libya and Sudan and underscored the importance of jump-starting comprehensive political processes to achieve peace and stability in the three countries.
