Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi followed up on Sunday the progress of the construction of the Grand Egyptian Museum, a gigantic new home for tens of thousands of ancient Egyptian artefacts, hundreds of metres away from the Giza Pyramids Plateau.
The president stressed that the museum’s construction and finishing have to fit its importance, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said in a statement following a meeting that President Sisi called on Sunday with a host of government and executive officials to follow up on the executive position of works to construct the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).
Attending the meeting were Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled el-Enani and Minister of Housing Assem el-Jazzar.
In directives to the senior officials attending the meeting, President Sisi called for reliance on the most modern technologies in securing the museum and its acquisition.
”The facility also has to make use of the latest methods and techniques in displaying its contents,” President Sisi said.
He also instructed the officials attending the meeting to raise the efficiency of all the buildings and the roads in the area surrounding the museum.
These preparations, the president said, have to reflect the greatness and uniqueness of the ancient Egyptian civilisation and take advantage of the distinguished location of the museum, including important archeological sites in its vicinity, such as the Great Giza Pyramids.
The museum, President Sisi said, has to fit its importance as one of the largest in the world and as a symbol of the Egyptian civilisation.
During the meeting, Tourism Minister el-Enani briefed the president about the preparations now under way for the opening of the Grand Avenue of Rams in the southern ancient city of Luxor, Presidency Spokesman Radi said.
He added that Minister el-Enani outlined the promotion campaign his ministry is preparing for this expected major event.
The minister also briefed the president on the status of the local tourist movement as well as the coordination between his ministry and other state authorities concerned to promote and develop tourist destinations and sites, Spokesman Radi said.
