Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz have stressed the need to exert efforts to prevent the expansion of the conflict in the region and put an end to the nearly year-long war in the Gaza Strip.

In a phone call initiated by Scholz on Wednesday, the two leaders emphasized Egypt and Germany’s aspiration to strengthen bilateral relations in all fields, as well as to bolster coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of common interest.

The phone call touched on the developments of the situation in the Middle East region, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.

Sisi called on the international community to play a decisive and effective role in ensuring that there is a political will to reach the desired ceasefire deal, exchange hostages and detainees, and respond positively to relevant efforts by mediators.

The Egyptian president also underlined the necessity of adopting a comprehensive political path according to which an independent Palestinian state shall be established on the basis of the two-state solution and in accordance with relevant international legitimacy resolutions; in a way that helps achieve sustainable stability in the region.

Meanwhile, the German chancellor commended Egypt’s intense and sincere efforts to work on defusing the crisis and stopping the war.

He also expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continued efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, noting that Cairo and Berlin have a shared vision on the necessity of ensuring the entry of relief aid in sufficient quantities to address the humanitarian catastrophe experienced by residents of the enclave.
