President Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting on Wednesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif El Sherbini, Presidential Advisor for Urban Planning Major General Amir Sayed Ahmed, and Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Ahmed El Azazi.

President Sisi was briefed during the meeting on the progress of the implementation of the projects of the first phase of the presidential initiative ‘Hayah Karima (Decent life) to develop the Egyptian countryside. The focus was on construction of water and sanitation stations and networks in the targeted villages, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed Ibrahim El Shennawy said.

The President stressed the necessity of completing these projects in line with the set timelines, without delay, El Shennawy added.

In addition, Minister of Housing El Sherbini offered an update of the executive situation of the strategic plan for seawater desalination, reviewing state efforts in the field since 2014. He noted that there are desalination plants in the governorates of Mersa Matrouh, Beheira, South Sinai, Red Sea, Port Said and Alexandria, in addition to five relevant five-year plans until 2050.

President Sisi was also briefed on proposals for the operation mechanisms of desalination plants and the conditions of water networks, El Shennawy said.

The president stressed the need to raise the efficiency of existing plants to achieve maximum benefit, ensure the implementation of ongoing projects according to their timeframes, and develop a comprehensive vision for future needs. He also underlined the importance of localising industry in the production of desalination plant supplies.

Sisi was also briefed on the executive situation of several development projects and plans to develop urban areas on the North Western Coast aiming to enhance their investment value and maximise their economic returns, including the Marina Tourism Centre, the Marina 8 project, the Marina Archaeological Zone development project, and the strategic plan for the West Ras El Hikma area and New Alamein City. The president gave commands that all construction, facilities and roads associated with these projects should be completed on schedule, the Presidency Spokesman said.

Furthermore, President Sisi reviewed work progress in projects being carried out by the Ministry of Housing.

The meeting reviewed the offering of the tenth phase of the “Beit Al–Watan” initiative, for Egyptians abroad, and the steps taken by the government to increase the number of plots of land offered to provide people’s needs.

The President also reviewed the progress of the “Your home in Egypt” initiative, as well as the mechanisms of operating and managing public parks in Cairo. He also underlined the importance of benefiting from international expertise in operating and managing green spaces and developing the relevant investment activities.

President Sisi stressed the need to accelerate implementation of projects, and regular follow-up, so that they can contribute to the development of assets and maximising their use.

He also underscored the importance of governance in managing resources and assets in line with the highest standards, giving directives to strengthen the partnership with the private sector to enable it to play due role in supporting development, Spokesman El Shennawy said.
