President briefed on ongoing projects in health sector
Gov’t urged to localise pharmaceutical, medical devices industries
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi convened a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Deputy Prime Minister for Human Development and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar.
During the meeting, President Sisi reviewed the activities of the Ministerial Group on Human Development, which included steps to implement the National Human Development Project.
These steps include, among others increasing the number of nurseries for children under the age of six, establishing 300 integrated human development centres in the various governorates, with the aim of enhancing cultural, educational and sports capabilities, improving physical, psychological and social health, and preparing future generations for the labour market, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El Shennawy said.
In the same context, Minister Abdel Ghaffar offered a detailed presentation on the National Strategy for Population and Development, within the framework of the presidential initiative ‘Bedaya’, which aims to improve demographic characteristics, reduce stunting, obesity and anaemia rates among children.
He also reviewed the developments in the population growth file, where the average annual population growth rate decreased by approximately 1.34% in 2025, compared to 1.4% in 2024.
Meanwhile, President Sisi was briefed on the national projects being implemented in the health sector across the nation.
These include the completion of the development and construction of 20 hospitals in 11 governorates by the end ofthe Fiscal Year2025, with estimated cost of LE11.7 billion.
This will add 2649 new beds, including 458 intensive care beds, 442 nursery beds, 1749 boarding beds, 542 dialysis machines and 95 operating theatres.
The development and construction of 11 hospitals in ten governorates has also been completed. Full medical equipment has been supplied to the existing hospitals affiliated to the of the Ministry of Health and its bodies until the third quarter of FY 2024-2025, Spokesman El Shennawy said.
In addition, President Sisi was also offered an explanation about the plan to implement the second phase of the Universal Health Insurance syYstem, which cover the governorates of Damietta, Kafr El Sheikh, Minya, Mersa Matrouh and North Sinai, with estimated cost of LE115 billion.
The health minister also reviewed steps to develop an integrated digital health system in line with Egypt Vision 2030 to improve the quality of healthcare, facilitate access to services, and increase operational efficiency.
President Sisi directed the government to study the possibility of including Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a compulsory subject in school curricula.
The president was also offered an account of the on the presidential initiatives to improve the public health, which target the age groups from birth to 5 years, 5 years to 15 years, and 18 years to 65 years, with a total of 15 presidential public health initiatives providing more than 234 million health services.
Furthermore, the president was also briefed on the state’s efforts to localise the pharmaceutical and medical devices industry, and stressed the importance of providing facilities to attract investments to the vital sector, thus contribute to fulfilling the needs of the domestic market and increasing Egyptian exports to global markets. President Sisi directed the government to take the necessary measures to improve the conditions of healthcare workers, enhance their participation in modern training programs, and leverage AI applications in this field.
