Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi yesterday directed the government to look into the details of the National Project for Developing the Egyptian Family so that it can integrate into a series of presidential initiatives targeting healthcare and social protection nationwide, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The meeting brought together Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala al-Saeed, Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine al-Qabbag, Presidential Advisor for Health and Prevention Affairs Awad Tag Eddin and Chairperson of the National Council for Women (NCW) Maya Morsi.

During the meeting, President Sisi ordered the expansion of the medical convoys, raising the number of equipped vehicles, and consolidating the executive mechanisms of these initiatives, in addition to working in harmony with the ongoing activities and programmes of the presidential “Decent Life” initiative that seeks to promote villages of the Egyptian countryside, Spokesman Radi added.

In addition, President Sisi directed the government to develop an institutional mechanism for regular monitoring and assessment of the outcome of the project, focusing on the cultural and awareness dimensions of the programme.

The presidential directives also included studying the inclusion of family development and public health issues in school curriculum to instill their principles in the rising generations, in light of the importance of these topics and their relation to the population issue. According to the presidency spokesman, the meeting reviewed the final vision of the project’s executive framework with the participation of all the concerned bodies.

The project targets the integrated upgrade of all aspects of life of Egyptian families nationwide. It focuses on several elements related to economic empowerment, especially for women, seeking to secure financial independence and jobs, as well as service intervention through training medical teams, and providing family planning services in co-operation with the civil society.

Other major aspects include raising people’s awareness on the basic concepts of the population issue and its repercussions, through media campaigns, in addition to establishing an integrated electronic system for linking and automating the services offered to the Egyptian families.

The meeting also reviewed the geographical scope of the project across the country and the governorates to be given priority in terms of the activities of the projects and the targeted segments, Ambassador Radi noted.
