CAIRO- President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received Sunday a phone call from President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
The call focused on consultations regarding the developments in the Israeli military escalation in Gaza, as well as the ongoing efforts to bring in the largest possible amount of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza in light of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the enclave.
The EU senior official expressed appreciation to Egypt for its leadership role in providing support to the people of Gaza during these difficult circumstances, as well as facilitating the exit of foreign nationals.
President Sisi stressed that the intensive efforts undertaken by Egypt to coordinate international humanitarian relief are not a substitute for the necessity of an immediate ceasefire.
The international community bears a political and moral responsibility to take serious and effective action to protect Palestinian civilians and stop policies of collective punishment, he added.
President Sisi renewed Cairo’s categorical rejection of liquidating the Palestinian issue without reaching a just solution by displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip to Egypt.
He called for working towards restoring calm to open a political track to reach a two-state solution, which represents the only path towards a just and lasting peace in the region.
