CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has affirmed Egypt’s keenness to play a major role in the international clean energy transition, which will benefit Egypt at the economic and environmental levels.
During his meeting on Monday with Dimitris Copelouzos, Chairman of Greek infrastructure development group Copelouzos, Sisi praised Egypt-Greece co-operation in all fields, which he said reflects strong relations between the two countries.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker, in addition to a number of senior officials from the Greek group.
During the meeting, President Sisi issued directives for continuing and accelerating co-operation efforts between Egypt and the Greek infrastructure development group to finalize the proposed projects as soon as possible, facilitate all relevant procedures, and remove obstacles that may face them, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
Sisi was briefed on the latest developments of the GREGY project for electrical interconnection with Europe, especially with the success of efforts to add the project to the list of EU energy Projects of Common and Mutual Interest, which allows for the start of the coming phase of the project that is related to compiling final technical and environmental studies.
The president was also informed about the Greek group’s plans to produce renewable energy in Egypt.
