Arab parliament speakers praise progress made in Egypt over past years
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received at the Presidential Palace on Saturday a delegation of the heads of Arab parliaments, who are participating in the fifth Conference of the Arab Parliament now held in Cairo.
The delegation consisted of – apart from Arab parliament speakers – the speaker of the Arab Parliament and the speaker of the pan-African Parliament.
President Sisi underscored support by the Egyptian government to efforts made to enhance communication and cooperation between the parliaments of Arab states, Presidency Spokesman, Ahmed Fahmi, said.
This cooperation, the president said, contributes to bolstering the exchange of experiences and advancing integration between these parliaments.
The president also expressed appreciation to the decision by the Arab parliament to focus on the issue of food security during its fifth conference.
“This issue acquires greater importance in the light of the current global food crisis around the world,” President Sisi said during the meeting.
The president called for maintaining solidarity among Arab countries.
Egypt, he said, is keen on strengthening relations between Arab countries and support to these countries, especially when it comes to the efforts they make to achieve stability and development.
“The stability and peace of Arab country is an integral part of Egypt’s stability and peace,” the president said.
The Arab parliament speakers, for their part, appreciated the constructive political and development path that Egypt followed over the past years.
This path, they said, enabled the Arab country withstand the enormous challenges that affected the region in this period.
The Arab parliament speakers also noted that their conference aims to develop a common parliamentary vision for the enhancement of Arab action.
The conference also aims to find ways to overcome the challenges facing the Arab nation.
The Arab parliament speakers also expressed appreciation of Egypt’s and President Sisi’s leadership as well as what they described as their ‘honourable’ positions in defending Arab national security.
