CAIRO – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed on Monday Egypt is ready to continue to support Somalia to build its national institutions and promote bilateral co-operation at the security, economic, and trade levels, as well as training Somali cadres.
President Sisi was speaking while receiving Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
Sisi said Egypt pays attention to the Somali people’s interests and supports it in the face of challenges, topped by terrorism and extremism.
Meanwhile, Mohamud noted his country is keen to develop co-operation with Egypt at different levels to rebuild its national institutions in light of the historic ties between the two countries.
The Somali president mentioned Egypt’s support in the educational field and the spreading moderate Islam.
He briefed Sisi on the latest developments in Somalia and steps aimed to restore stability and security and eliminate terrorism.
The talks touched on regional issues of common interest, including the Horn of Africa, Red Sea security, and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), as the two leaders agreed on boosting consultation and coordination to follow up on the updates.
