Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has asserted Cairo’s readiness to continue providing support for Somalia to consolidate its state institutions.
The president made the remarks during a meeting he held on Wednesday with his Somalia counterpart Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the fringes of the 31st Arab Summit, being held in Algeria.
Sisi lauded Egypt’s historical relations with Somalia, asserting keenness on the interests of the brotherly Somali people as well as on supporting the East African country and helping it deal with the various challenges it has been facing, especially extremism and terrorism, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.
He also emphasized Egypt’s willingness to revitalize aspects of cooperation with Somalia, particularly at the economic and trade levels, as well as to provide humanitarian and relief assistance to help the country confront drought crises and train its technical cadres.
Meanwhile, the Somali president said his country is keen to bolster consultation and coordination with Egypt on various regional files of mutual interest and develop bilateral cooperation at all levels.
Mohamud pointed out to the historical ties binding Egypt and Somalia at the popular and official levels, praising Cairo’s historical role in providing assistance and support for his country in all fields.
