Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has expressed Egypt’s cherishment of historical relations with Serbia and emphasised that Egypt is looking forward to the consolidation of ties with Serbia in various fields, making special reference in this connection to increasing trade and economic exchanges.
The President’s remarks came during his meeting on Sunday with the visiting Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selaković, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said. Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri, the director of the Middle East Department at the Serbian Foreign Ministry and the Serbian amabassdor to Cairo attended the meeting.
At the outset of the meeting, President Sisi noted that relations between Egypt and Serbia have over more than a century witnessed a process of constructive and fruitful co-operation at both bilateral and international levels, recalling in this context the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Egypt, President Sisi noted, aspires to consolidate the path of relations between the two friendly countries in various domains, including through increasing the rate of trade and economic exchanges in such a manner that matches up the standard of distinguished political ties between the two countries, spokesman Radi said.
President Sisi highlighted that the aspired increase in trade and economic exchanges comes in light of the major developmental projects being implemented in Egypt and the huge investment and industrial opportunities that such projects are making available.
Additionally, President Sisi pointed out that Serbian companies can benefit from the chain of trade agreements linking Egypt with Arab and African countries.
For his part, the Serbian foreign minister expressed his country’s keenness to sustain coordination and consultation with Egypt in various fields, adding that Serbia is looking forward to the furtherance and promotion of ties with Egypt, especially in light of the successful and inspiring developmental experience that Egypt is currently undergoing under the leadership of President Sisi in all fields, spokesman Radi said.
The Serbian foreign minister also expressed his country’s appreciation of the Egyptian efforts to achieve security and stability in its entire regional surrounding. Serbia, he added, also stands keen to continue cooperation with Egypt at various levels in confronting the challenges facing both sides of the Mediterranean particularly in light of the between security in Europe and the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
He also praised in this context Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the bridges of dialogue between African, Arab and European countries as well as its efforts to combat extremist thought and establish the principles and values of accepting the other, freedom of choice and tolerance, the Presidency spokesman said.
