President Abdel Fattah El Sisi welcomed the opening of new horizons for co-operation with Malaysia, especially at the commercial and industrial levels in the light of the existence of broad prospects for co-operation between the two countries in this field in addition to Egypt’s being the main gateway to Africa and the Middle East on the one hand and Malaysia being the main gateway to the ASEAN bloc on the other.
During a video conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, President Sisi exchanged views on regional and international issues of common interest, especially the developments of the Palestinian cause and efforts to achieve peace in the Middle East, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said Thursday.
President Sisi and Prime Minister Yassin also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral co-operation between the two sides in the fields of security, combating terrorism and extremist ideology and religious education in the light of the status of Al-Azhar and the importance it occupies in Malaysia as a beacon for spreading true moderate Islam.
The president also reviewed efforts to increase Malaysian investments to Egypt with the aim of achieving mutual benefit and enabling the Malaysian side to benefit from the privileges and incentives provided by the Egyptian state in various sectors, especially automobiles, electronics and energy, as well as major national projects, foremost of which is the development of the Suez Canal axis and the New Administrative Capital through new infrastructure and construction.
The two sides agreed to intensify bilateral contacts between senior officials of the two countries and exchange high-level visits during the coming period, for the sake of continuous consultation and coordination, whether at the bilateral level or as part of international forums.
For his part, the Malaysian prime minister valued the Egyptian efforts that helped to stop escalation and restore the desired calm in Gaza Strip, as well as the Egyptian initiative to reconstruct the Strip and the efforts to urgently re-launch negotiations, leading to the establishment of a Palestinian state in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
The Malaysian prime minister affirmed his country’s aspiration to develop bilateral co-operation with Egypt, especially at the economic, industrial, commercial and educational levels, in the light of the great and remarkable development in the investment and business climate in Egypt, which was embodied in a series of mega national projects, creating many promising opportunities for co-operation and investment.
