Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi said Sunday that Egypt is keen on maintaining Arab water security.
Addressing a trilateral summit in Baghdad Sunday with Iraqi Prime Minister Moustafa al Kadhimi and Jordanian King Abdullah II, President Sisi welcomed supportive stances of Baghdad and Amman regarding the problem of Ethiopia’s Renaissance Dam; which is a top priority file.
The Ethiopian dam constitutes a direct threat to Egypt’s national security, Sisi said, reiterating calls for a binding legal agreement about the filling and operation of the dam.
The summit focused on means to boost trilateral co-operation in all fields, said presidential spokesman Bassam Rady.
It also tackled coordinated stances regarding the political situation in the region in light of unprecedented challenges facing the Arab national security, Rady added.
The three leaders also discussed economic and investment cooperation with the aim to start a new phase of strategic integration between their countries, the spokesman noted.
They agreed on the need to intensify coordination among the three countries regarding regional and international developments, and to face common threats and unacceptable foreign interference, Rady said.
The summit also took up efforts to fight terrorism and extremism, he added
