Sisi: Egypt keen on enhancing extended strategic partnership with Germany

Berlin – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted Tuesday Egypt’s keenness on supporting and deepening the extended strategic partnership with Germany, which is a key pillar for maintaining security and stability of the Middle East region.

Sisi’s remarks came during his meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock for talks on a set of regional and international of common interest especially the latest developments in Ukraine and its negative economic impact on the international level, the developments of the coronavirus pandemic, the phenomena of climate change and Egypt’s hosting of the UN Climate Summit in November.

Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said Sisi voiced Egypt’s aspiration to maximize its coordination and consultation with the German side in the coming phase as regards the political, security and economic files of common concern.

Talks also covered the latest developments in Eastern the Mediterranean, Libya, Syria and Yemen as Sisi affirmed that all political solutions are the only option for settling such crises in order to maintain the safety and territorial integrity of the war-torn countries, added the spokesman.

Sisi also pressed the need for providing the necessary security bases for combating the terrorist organizations and drying them up to ban their transfer to other countries, the spokesman said.

The German FM, on her part, welcomed Sisi’s visit to Berlin and asserted that her country would back mutual ties in a constructive and positive way especially the commitments of the German government towards fighting terrorism and extremist thought, achieving comprehensive and sustainable development in Egypt and the whole region.

She also said Berlin is looking forward to intensifying joint coordination with Egypt on the Middle East issues in light of Egypt’s political weight in its regional surroundings. She also praised Egypt’s efforts to work out political solutions for standing political crises.
