Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed to change Egypt into a a hub for world trade and logistics services, said Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir.

The minister made his remarks on Thursday during the inauguration of Tahya Masr multipurpose terminal at Alexandria port in the presence of Sisi.

The government has laid down the bases for putting the president’s directives into effect, El Wazir said, noting that the Transport Ministry has worked on realizing strategic goals with the establishment of integrated development logistic routes to link production zones with maritime ports.

The logistics route of El-Sokhna-Alexandria is one of the most important ones, starting from El-Sokhna port on the Gulf of Suez and the Red Sea to Alexandria port on the Mediterranean and is linked by the first line of the high speed electric train, he added.

Transport Minister El Wazir said the state currently works on establishing 18-kilometer length docks in Sokhna port to increase the total length of docks to 23 kilometers.

The respective authorities currently work on establishing further 17 kilometers of electric rails alongside diesel rails to handle heavy loads.

The minister noted that 13 national companies are working on constructing the docks at Sokhna port, while the implementation progress has been completed by 80%.

National companies have been cooperating with the Egyptian National Railways to increase the length of railways to 22 kilometers, while the implementation progress has been completed by 87%, El Wazir said.

The implementation progress of infrastructure of the logistic route has been completed by 45%, Transport Minister El Wazir said, noting that 46 Egyptian companies are working on realizing these goals.

He noted that this logistic route passes through the dry port and logistic zone in the 10th of Ramadan city, noting that the dry port serves the Sokhna port of the Red Sea, East and West Port Said harbor of the Mediterranean Sea.

The respective authorities have a plan to increase the length of docks at Alexandria ports to 30 kilometers by end of 2024, he said.

A five-story garage, which can accommodate 4,000 cars, and a workshop have been also built at Sisi’s directives, the minister added.
