Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to diversify sources of supply of all basic food commodities and at the same time increase stock for a period of no less than 6 months.
The President’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Defense Mohamed Zaki, and Minister of Supply Ali El-Moselhi, Minister of the Interior Mahmoud Tawfiq and Head of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service Abbas Kamel, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, the President followed up on the provision of strategic stocks of all basic food commodities, especially with the approach of the holy month of Ramadan.
The President was also briefed on the government’s efforts to control and monitor prices.
In this context, the President instructed the government to study the cost of the production of the unsubsidised bread as well as its pricing, provided that the Ministry of Supply provides the necessary flour for bakeries to set the price, with supply inspectors verifying the implementation.
The President also directed the government to quickly establish additional import incentive for the price of local wheat ardeb (150 KGs) for the current agricultural season and announce it as soon as possible.
As part of efforts aimed at supporting the neediest groups on the occasion of the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, the president also called for maintaining coordination between all authorities concerned, especially the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Supply and the Long Live Egypt Fund, to offer low-priced food commodities.
