Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for the establishment of an industrial complex for the production of polyethylene to meet the local market’s needs of industrial components that are vital for the development process and the production in many key sectors, which would help in reducing the import bill.

The President’s remarks came as he met on Sunday  with Major General Walid Abu Al-Majd, Director General of the Armed Forces National Service Projects Authority, Major General Karam Salem, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Contracting Company, and Eng. Taha Al-Gamal from the private sector, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, the President reviewed the efforts exerted by the state through the National Service Projects Authority to localize industry in cooperation with the private sector.

The President was also briefed on the details of the largest industrial complex of its kind in the Middle East, which is expected to contribute to the production of large part of the industrial requirements used in many sectors including the digital transformation sector through manufacturing all fiber products such as cables, in addition to the requirements of the modern transportation sector like the high-speed monorail.

The industrial complex will consist of 6 main factories in various sectors related to polyethylene derivatives, and will include 30 production lines for 1,000 different products, which will contribute to saving hard currency by reducing imports. All products of the complex shall conform to European specifications and will be internationally approved.

It will also contain a special sector for training and technical education. The complex it will be established in the Upper Egypt region, thus providing thousands of job opportunities for the people of Upper Egypt.
