CAIRO- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi delegated Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki to lay down a wreath at the memorial of the Armed Forces martyrs in Cairo’s Nasr City district.
This falls within the framework of celebrations of the Martyrs Day which commemorates the death of the then Armed Forces Chief of Staff Abdel Moneim Riyad on March 9 in 1969.
Zaki – accompanied by Chief of Staff Osama Askar and a number of key Armed Forces commanders – laid down a wreath at the unknown soldier memorial.
Military music was played, then the defense minister read some verses of Quran at the tomb of late Egyptian president Anwar el Sadat.
Zaki saluted the Armed Forces top brass at the end of the event.
He also gave directives to Armed Forces commanders to lay wreaths of flowers at unknown soldier memorials in various governorates.
