Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has lauded tripartite co-operation between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq, emphasising the need to build on the outcomes of the last summit meeting in Baghdad last June. The president has also called for adopting concrete measures to increase aspects of coordination and co-operation between the three countries, especially with regarding energy projects, electricity connectivity and industrial complexes.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Monday, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

During the meeting, President Sisi commended the strong brotherly relations between Egypt and Jordan and the advanced level that these relations have reached. In this context, he expressed aspiration to strengthen them in a way that contributes to realising the interests of the two countries and peoples, especially on the economic and trade domains.

The president highlighted the importance of pushing forward co-operation between the relevant authorities in the two countries regarding facing the repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.

For his part, the Jordanian deputy prime minister expressed the deep appreciation that Jordan holds for Egypt at both official and popular levels and its pride in the extended ties between the two countries as well as the course of bilateral relations and the level of the tripartite co-operation mechanism with brotherly Iraq.

He also stressed Jordan’s keenness to benefit from Egypt’s developmental efforts in all fields through exchanging expertise and joint investment in light of the comprehensive development process and the major national projects being implemented in Egypt.

The meeting also featured a review of the latest developments in the region, especially the situation in Lebanon and developments in both Syria and Libya.

Views were also exchanged regarding the developments of the peace process in the Middle East and the relevant coordination that exists between the two countries.

In this regard, the Jordanian deputy prime minister praised the tireless Egyptian efforts to consolidate the ceasefire between the Israelis and the Palestinians, as well as Egypt’s initiative to rebuild the Gaza Strip.

The two sides affirmed the intensification of efforts at the international level with the aim of activating the peace process and resuming negotiations to settle the Palestinian cause on the basis of the resolutions of international legitimacy.
