President Abdel Fattah El Sisi made a tour on Friday of a number of road projects around Cairo to follow up on their implementation and ensure that they adhere to quality standards and schedules.
The president’s tour took him to the Ring Road around Greater Cairo, which is now being expanded.
The tour also took the president to other axis road and new roads in the vicinity of Cairo International Airport in the northeastern part of the Egyptian capital.
The president checked the ongoing development and expansion of the area around the airport, Presidency Spokesman, Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
President Sisi also toured some of the internal roads and streets within the same area to follow up ongoing works to raise their efficiency, especially in Sheraton neighborhood, Ambassador Radi said.
These works aim to reduce the density of traffic in the area and ease movement both ways, the presidency spokesman said, adding that the ongoing works also aim to make good links between the area around the airport and axis road in other parts of Cairo.
The president’s tour also took him to sites where the Ring Road around Greater Cairo is being expanded, Ambassador Radi said.
The president inspected the area from the Autostrad Axis in eastern Cairo to Mounib neighborhood in its western part.
The expansion of the Ring Road in this area will include raising the number of its lanes to eight on each direction, instead of four at present, the presidency spokesman said.
The works also include providing the road with all required services, he added.
He said the president stopped in at different points and chatted with executives and engineers responsible for overseeing the implementation of the projects.
