Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed the government to maintain plans to support the spinning and weaving industry with the aim of restoring the Egyptian cotton’s glory as part of the state’s comprehensive development plan.
The president’s remarks came as he met on Tuesday with Prime Minister Madbouli and Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfik, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the meeting, the president said that the plan would maximise the benefit of the Egyptian capabilities in this framework, and support the national economy, especially as the spinning and weaving industry is labour intensive.
In this context, Minister of Public Business Sector Tawfik briefed the president on the efforts to establish the largest spinning factory in the world in the city of Mahalla, which will be opened next year. The factory, which will be established on an area of 62,000 square metres, will include the latest equipment and machines in this field with the help of the experience of major international companies.
It will also deal with all types of cotton, especially long-staple and extra-long staple cotton, which will contribute to benefitting from Egypt’s competitive advantages in cotton production worldwide, in light of its high quality and distinguished reputation in international markets.
The efforts of the Ministry of Public Business Sector in developing the marketing of the products of the spinning and weaving sector at the highest level were boosted through the establishment of an Egyptian company for marketing, sales and supply chain management.
Meanwhile, President Sisi held another meeting with Prime Minister Madbouli and a host of ministers and top government officials, Presidency Spokesman Radi said.
During the meeting, the president directed that Egypt’s Olympic City be integrated with other sports and cultural components such as the Egypt’s Stud Farm (Marabet Misr), and the City of Arts and Culture, in order to form a comprehensive sports and cultural approach in harmony with the infrastructure of the sports system in Egypt, in general, including stadiums, gymnasiums and playgrounds and the related technical and logistical services.
The president was also briefed on the efforts to develop and upgrade the sports infrastructure, facilities, stadiums, gyms, playgrounds and living quarters nationwide to reflects Egypt’s ability to host international championships and events in all sports, noting that this will contribute to the promotion of Egypt’s culture and tourism.
