President Abdel Fattah El Sisi called for continuous coordination between various relevant authorities to enhance efforts to develop and raise the efficiency of roads and traffic axes in various areas in Greater Cairo in order to ease movement for citizens frequenting those roads and axes and to eliminate traffic jams.

The president’s remarks came during his meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli as well as a host of ministers and top government officials, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

The president noted that this comes as part of the state’s plan to develop and modernise the road network and traffic axes and to restore the civilised image of Greater Cairo.

The president also directed the government to formulate an integrated plan to raise the efficiency of the main axes linking eastern and western Cairo, especially the 6th of October Bridge and the Fangary and 26th of July axes. He also called for developing the transportation system in the western region of Greater Cairo.

President Sisi added that the aim of these efforts is to alleviate the difficulties faced by the citizens of the western Cairo region, which is known for its severe traffic jams. This is also done by establishing major axes and linking them to the surrounding regional hubs, while taking into account the security and safety of pedestrians through the establishment of a number of pedestrian bridges.
