President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has called for motivating the localization of vehicle manufacturing and feeding industries in such a way that increases the share of local components in auto-making and keeps abreast with global advances.
The President’s call came in the course of a meeting he called Monday to review the state’s efforts to upgrade the making of means of public transport and heavy vehicles of all types through promoting reliance on alternative energy resources, especially including natural gas and electricity, Presidency Spokesman Bassam Radi said.
Attending the meeting were the Commander of the Armed Forces Vehicles Department, Major-General Kamal Wafaei, the Assistant Commander of Armed Forces Vehicles Department for Armament, Major-General Mohamed Abdel Fattah, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of MCV Company, Eng Karim Ghabbour, and the Director of Export Department at MCV Company, Eng Sameh Nabil.
During the meeting, President Sisi gave directives for the promotion of coordination between government agencies and private sector companies of distinguished expertise in the manufacturing of natural gas-powered vehicles, including buses and trucks,Spokesman Radi said.
In this context, President Sisi noted that expansion in the use of natural gas-powered vehicles implies considerable economic and environmental returns. Efforts in the direction of such upgrade, the President noted, helps to keep pace with the growing global trend to rely on clean fuel.
Such efforts, President Sisi added, would also entail the sustained upgrading of the relevant infrastructure, including vehicle charging stations and maintenance points.
The presidential directives during the meeting also called for the realization of expansion in the production of electricity-powered public transport buses and vehicles, including through cooperation between the Ministry of Military Production and the private sector, Spokesman Radi said.
President Sisi stressed the importance of abidance in this process by the principle of localizing the manufacturing of production requirements as a core target. Action in this direction, the President stressed, should observe the quality standards and the highest world specifications.
