Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has given directives to the government to ensure that meals delivered to school students are characterised by the best quality in form, composition and nutritional value as a means of building a correct healthy system for the rising generations.
The president gave these directives during a meeting he held on Sunday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and a group of Cabinet ministers and top government officials, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
Reviewing the main characteristics of the National School Meals Programme and the efforts made to treat and prevent diseases resulting from malnutrition were the aims of the meeting, Spokesman Radi said.
Following the review, President Sisi called for full observance and the utmost care in all steps and measures of the programme from the manufacturing and production stages to storage and distribution.
The exercise of meticulous checks into all measures and steps pertaining to the School Meals Programme, President Sisi told the meeting, is meant to ensure that students be offered the best quality meals that fit their age groups and that the meals are characrerised by the finest possible standards in form, composition and integrated nutritional value.
This, the president noted, comes in order to establish a sound health system for the coming generations and for all members of society and to raise awareness of the culture of proper nutrition to become part of building the personality of students and children.
President Sisi was also briefed on the executive steps for implementing the School Meals Programme nationwide through participation and coordination by the Cabinet ministries and government bodies concerned with the Ministry of Education as well as with the Armed Forces National Service Projects Authority via the Silo Foods Company.
In a related directive, President Sisi called for linking the School Meals Programme with the all-Egypt map of health and therapeutic status, the spokesman said.
