Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi yesterday reviewed the Transport Ministry’s operational and management plans for the fast electric train system through co-operation with Germany’s Deutsche Bahn and called for emphasis on the qualification of human resources.

The review was the topic of President Sisi’s meeting yesterday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Transport Minister Kamel Wazir, Deutsche Bahn CEO Niko Warbanoff, El Sewedy Electric Company Board Chairman Ahmed El Sewedy and the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) Chief, Major-General Sherif Hassan.

Discussions during the meeting covered the aspects of co-operation between the Transport Ministry and Deutsche Bahn for the operation and management of the fast electric train system, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.

Deutsche Bahn is Germany’s national railway company and is considered the largest railway operator and infrastructure owner in Europe.

During the meeting, Transport Minister Wazir outlined the ongoing efforts to draw up a contract between the country’s NAT and Germany’s DB for management and operation of Egypt’s fast electric train network which consists of three lines with a total length of 2000 kilometres. Egyptian private sector is partnering in the project through the El Sewedy Electric Company.

In remarks during the meeting, President Sisi expressed Egypt’s appreciation of German expertise in the management and operation of precise-governance systems and called for focusing on the qualification of Egyptian cadres, including through the transfer of German work culture, Spokesman Radi said.

For his part, the DB chief lauded the developmental achievements Egypt has made under the leadership of President Sisi over the past years and noted that the German company is looking forward to co-operating with Egypt’s Transport Ministry in the management and operation of the fast electric train network now being implemented, Spokesman Radi said.

The DB chief also highlighted that the German company would undertake the qualification and training of Egyptian engineers and technicians who will operate the fast electric train system.
