President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has directed the reinforcement and maintenance of strategic food reserves, while continuing efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in agricultural, livestock, and poultry products.
He also called for modernizing agricultural breeds through close coordination between relevant ministries and the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority.
The directives were issued during a meeting on Tuesday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouq, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Eldin Farouq, and Executive Director of the Egypt Future Sustainable Development Authority Bahaa El-Ghannam.
According to the presidential spokesman, Mohamed El-Shennawy, President Sisi reviewed preparations for the holy fasting month of Ramadan, focusing on the availability of high-quality foodstuffs at reasonable prices.
Minister Farouq confirmed that all essential goods are available in sufficient quantities, with “Ahlan Ramadan” fairs offering discounts of 15–25% and the preparation and distribution of 2.5 million Ramadan boxes and packages.
The president stressed the importance of daily monitoring of goods across all outlets nationwide, ensuring compliance with announced prices, discount rates, and product quality, and holding accountable those who overprice.
He underlined the use of all state mechanisms to regulate markets, particularly for white meat, to stabilize prices and ease citizens’ burdens, taking consumption patterns during Ramadan into account.
In line with these efforts, President Sisi approved the launch of the national “Carry On” project to unify branding across government supply outlets.
He also directed continued field monitoring and full coordination between authorities to ensure the efficiency of the supply system and the proper delivery of subsidies to beneficiaries.
The meeting also addressed food security developments, reviewing strategic stock levels, planning to preserve state reserves, tackling regional challenges, and advancing digital transformation in the food supply chain.
The discussions covered activating the commodity exchange to ensure sustainable access to essential goods at fair prices, protect both producers and consumers, and position Egypt as a regional logistics hub for strategic commodities.
The president reaffirmed the importance of continued cooperation between the ministries of supply and agriculture and the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority to guarantee national food security.
