Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received a phone call from US President Joe Biden. The two leaders discussed the joint efforts of Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to calm the situation in Gaza, achieve a ceasefire, exchange detainees, and deliver humanitarian aid.
During the call, President Sisi emphasised the urgent need for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire in the war in Gaza to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians and achieve real improvement in the situation in the region.
He warned of the danger of continuing military escalation and targeting civilians. He also reiterated Egypt’s total condemnation of targeting civilians in violation of international law and the resolution of international legitimacy.
President Biden praised the joint efforts to promote calm, noting that the priority at the moment is to restore stability in the region. He particularly appreciated Egypt’s intensive efforts to achieve calm and its pivotal leadership role in delivering relief aid to the people of Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
President Sisi and President Biden discussed the overall regional situation. They stressed the need to avoid further escalation and agreed to continue consultation and coordination to ensure the restoration of peace and security in the region.
They also reaffirmed the strength of the strategic partnership between the two countries and discussed ways to enhance their distinguished bilateral relations.
