President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and US President Joe Biden agreed on Monday to strengthen diplomatic efforts during the coming period in order to reach an agreement regarding the Ethiopian dam file that preserves water and development rights for all parties.
Such a position came in a phone call that President Sisi received from US President Biden this evening, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said.
During the call, President Sisi welcomed the continued US efforts on the Ethiopian dam file, stressing Egypt’s adherence to its water rights by reaching a fair and binding legal agreement that includes clear rules for the process of filling and operating the dam to ensure water security for Egypt.
The Egyptian leader also emphasized the strength of the Egyptian-US relations and their strategic nature, stressing that Egypt would continue to make efforts to strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries, within a firm framework of common interests and mutual respect.
In this context, President Biden stressed the value of the fruitful partnership, constructive cooperation and mutual understanding between the two countries.
He added that the US administration aspires to strengthen bilateral relations with Egypt during the next phase in various fields, especially in light of Egypt’s pivotal role regionally and internationally and its political efforts to support security and stability in the region and settlement of its crises.
The two leaders also discussed developments regarding the Palestinian cause and ways to revive the peace process in the wake of recent developments.
They also reviewed support for consolidating the ceasefire that was reached between the Palestinian and Israeli parties with Egyptian mediation and full US support.
They, meanwhile, highlighted international efforts aimed at reconstructing Gaza and providing urgent humanitarian aid with President Biden referring to his country’s determination to work to restore calm in the Palestinian territories.
He also said that his country is keen on coordinating efforts with all international partners in order to support the Palestinian Authority as well as reconstruction efforts.
The US President also reiterated Washington’s great appreciation for successful efforts of the Egyptian President and authorities to reach a ceasefire agreement, expressing his aspiration for continued consultations and coordination in this regard.
The call also covered the latest developments in the Libyan file with the two leaders agreeing on the importance of working to restore balance and stability in the Libyan state and to preserve its national institutions, leading to the elections at the end of this year.
The US President also praised the strenuous Egyptian efforts towards the Libyan issue, which strengthened the course of the political process in Libya.
The two leaders also asserted commitment to engage in a transparent dialogue between Egypt and the United States in the human rights file.
