New Head of Egypt’s Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC), Counselor Boulos Fahmy Eskander, took the oath of office before President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday.
During the swearing-in ceremony, President Sisi expressed profound appreciation for the lofty role of the SCC in the Egyptian judiciary. The president also wished Counselor Fahmy success in his new post.
Graduated in the Faculty of Law, Cairo University in 1977, Eskander earned a degree from the US Atlanta Research Institute in judicial management in 1994.
Eskander served as the vice president of the SCC in 2010 and then as president of the Cairo Appeal Court until he was reappointed as the vice president of the SCC in 2014.
Eskander was appointed SCC President with the rank of minister, as of February 9.
He succeeded Judge Said Marei Mohamed Gad, who was retired over health problems.
The SCC is the country’s autonomous and independent judicial authority in charge of ensuring that the domestic laws and regulations are in line with the constitution.
Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said the president appreciated the important role of the court in supporting Egypt’s judiciary, wishing Iskandar success in his new task.
Iskandar, who was vice president of the court, graduated from the Faculty of Law, Cairo University in 1977 and earned a degree from the US Atlanta Research Institute in judicial management in 1994.
