Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi underlined the importance of extended strategic partnership relations between Egypt and the US, saying Cairo is looking forward to further enhance coordination and consultation between the two sides in the various political and security files as well as regional issues.
This came during Sisi’s meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Monday in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and US Charge d’Affaires at the US Embassy in Cairo Daniel Rubinstein.
Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said Sisi welcomed the top US diplomat and sent greetings to US President Joe Biden.
Blinken, on his part, extended Biden’s greetings to the Egyptian president and said Washington counts much on the sustained coordination with Egypt under Sisi’s leadership to restore stability and calm to the region amid the tense situation between Palestinians and Israelis.
The spokesman also said that the two sides reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian territories, joint efforts and the ongoing Egyptian endeavors to contain the escalated situation in the territories over the past few days.
Sisi also asserted that recent developments highlighted the necessity of taking an immediate action on the political and security tracks to reach cooling-off and put an end to unilateral actions from both sides, the spokesman added.
The Egyptian president reiterated Egypt’s firm stance on the need of working out a just and comprehensive solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people in accordance with the international terms of reference and in a way that could settle this pivotal issue in the region and open the door for peace, stability, cooperation and building, the spokesman explained.
The spokesman also noted that the two sides exchanged visions and viewpoints on a number of regional and international issues of common interest along with some bilateral issues.
In this context, the meeting covered the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam as President Sisi affirmed Egypt’s firm stance in this regard and the necessity of reaching a binding agreement on the filling and operation of the dam so as to achieve common interests and maintain the water and development rights of all parties. Sisi also underlined the need for the US to play an influential role in settling such crisis, according to the spokesman.
