Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi asserted Egypt’s keenness on promoting ties and co-operation with Japan in light of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s visit to Cairo in April during which Egypt and Japan agreed to promote bilateral relations to the “strategic partnership level”.
This came during President Sisi’s meeting with Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Yoshimasa Hayashi, in presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.
In statements on Wednesday, Presidential Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said that President Sisi conveyed his greetings to the Japanese premier, underlining Egypt’s great appreciation of Japan at the official and popular levels.
For his part, the Japanese foreign minister conveyed Japanese PM Kishida’s greetings to President Sisi, lauding the positive developments in the Egyptian-Japanese ties on all levels in light of the strategic partnership between the two countries, the spokesman said.
He also praised Egypt’s development achievements, which contributed to achieving a boom in Japanese investments in Egypt and doubling them within a short period, saying his country is looking forward to continue to strengthen this path, the spokesman added.
The meeting also took up a number of files related to cooperation between the two countries in the education field, along with benefiting from Japan’s extensive expertise at all levels, the spokesman said.
The meeting touched on various dimensions of ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the energy, transportation and technology areas, in addition to the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is one of the main and most important symbols of the Egyptian-Japanese long history of cooperation.
Among the issues discussed during the two sides’ meeting is the international peace and security, particularly the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its negative impacts on the world economic situation and the energy and food crises.
The two sides also discussed a number of regional files of mutual interest.
They also stressed the necessity of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue that in turn will help achieve lasting peace in the region.
In this regard, President Sisi reiterated Egypt’s firm position on establishing an independent Palestinian State in accordance with international references and in a way that achieves the interests of all the peoples of the region in terms of peace, security and development.
