Cairo reiterates firm position in support of Sudan’s security, stability, peace
Egypt’s Red Lines:
Any infringement upon state institutions
Endangering country’s unity, territorial integrity
Tampering with people’s capabilities
Allowing any part to secede
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah ElSisi reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast and principled position in support of security, stability, and peace in Sudan, underscoring Egypt’s commitment to all international and regional efforts aimed at preventing escalation, resolving conflicts, and alleviating humanitarian suffering.
He also reiterated Egypt’s support for international initiatives seeking to end the crisis in Sudan through peaceful means and to restore stability in a manner that serves the interests of the Sudanese people.
President Sisi made these remarks as he received Head of Sudan Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, at al-Ittihadia Presidential Palace todaty, said the Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shennawy.
Ambassador Shennawy noted that the two sides agreed, during the meeting, on the importance of intensifying efforts to provide support and assistance to the Sudanese people in light of the dire humanitarian conditions they face as a result of the ongoing conflict.
They also stressed the need to stop the crimes being committed against the brotherly Sudanese people and to hold those responsible accountable.
For his part, Lt-Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhanexpressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continued support for Sudan and its efforts to end the current crisis, affirming that this reflects the depth of the fraternal relations between the two countries, Shennawy said.
He revealed that the meeting also addressed regional issues in the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa, with the two sides affirming their shared vision regarding national security priorities and their commitment to continued coordination and joint action to protect water security.
They also rejected unilateral actions in the Blue Nile Basin and emphasised the need to respect the rules of international law in a way that achieves the common interests of all the basin countries.
Earlier in the day yesterday and on the occasion of the visit of Lt-Gen al-Burhan, Egypt has issued a press statement in which it reaffirmed its firm and principled positions regarding the situation in Sudan and the importance of restoring peace and stability.
It also reiterates full support for the vision of US President Donald Trump aimed at achieving security, stability, and peace in Sudan, within the broader framework of efforts to prevent escalation, resolve conflicts, and promote peace at the regional and international levels.
The statement said Egypt is following with grave concern the ongoing escalation and severe tensions in Sudan, as well as the tragic humanitarian consequences resulting from the violence, including horrific massacres and flagrant violations of the most basic human rights against Sudanese civilians, particularly in El Fasher, the statement read.
Egypt underscored that there are clear and firm red lines that cannot be crossed or compromised, as any such developments would directly affect Egyptian national security, which is directly linked to the national security of Sudan.
Egypt affirmed that preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Sudan and safeguarding its resources and the capabilities of the Sudanese people are among the key red lines. This includes not allowing the secession of any part of Sudanese territory. Egypt reiterates, in the same context, its categorical rejection of the establishment or recognition of any parallel entities, as this jeopardises Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity.
It also emphasized that preserving the institutions of the Sudanese state and preventing undermining these institutions is another red line. Egypt also affirms its full right to take all necessary measures and procedures guaranteed by international law and the joint defense agreement between the two countries to ensure that these red lines are not crossed.
