Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received President of the Transitional Sovereign Council of the Republic of the Sudan, General AbdelFattah Al Burhan, at Ittihadiya Palace, Cairo, yesterday.
The meeting was attended byForeign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty, and Head of the Egyptian Intelligence Directorate, Major General Hassan Rashad attended the meeting.
Attending from the Sudanese side were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohei Eddin Salem, and Director of the General Intelligence Service, Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufddal, and the Sudanese Ambassador in Cairo, Emad Eddin Moustafa Adawi, and Director of the Office of the President of the Sovereign Council Major General Adel Ismail Abu Bakr AlFaki,
The official spokesperson for the Presidency Ambassador Mohamed El Shennawy said that the President welcomed Lieutenant General Al-Burhan and praised the strong brotherly relations between the two countries and the tangible developments in various fields.
President Sisi and General Al Burhan discussed the developments on the ground in Sudan and the international and regional efforts aiming at ending the war and achieving stability in the country, the Presidency Spokesman said.
Sisi also underlined Cairo’s categorical rejection of any attempts that might threaten Sudan’s security, undermine its national cohesion or form any parallel entities to the legitimate Sudanese government, El Shennawy added.
For his part, Al Burhan voiced deep appreciation for Egypt’s extensive support and President Sisi’s efforts in this regard, which embody the deep-rooted brotherly ties between the two peoples, and contribute to Sudan’s efforts to emerge from its current crisis and restore security and stability.
The meeting stressed the importance of the Sudan’s Quartet Mechanism as an umbrella for seeking to resolve the Sudanese crisis, end the war, and achieve the aspired stability.
Sisi and Al Burhan voiced hopes that the Quartet meeting, slated in Washington this month would yield tangible outcome with a view to ending the war and resolving the crisis, the Presidency Spokesman said.
In addition, the meeting tackled developments in the Nile water issue, as the two sides reiterated their categorical rejection of any unilateral measures taken on the Blue Nile that contravene the relevant provisions of international law, the spokesperson noted.
In the same context, Al Burhan emphasised unity of position between Egypt and Sudan, as well as convergence of their interests pertaining to the issue of the Ethiopian dam.
The two leaders agreed to boost and intensify mechanisms of consultation and coordination between the two countries to ensure the protection of shared water rights, El Shennawy said.
