Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi was briefed on Monday on the developments in the implementation of the national strategy for higher education and scientific research, which aims to develop these two vital sectors, provide a stimulating climate for the localization and production of knowledge and support the transition towards fourth-generation universities to keep pace with global trends.
The President’s remarks came during his meeting yesterday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour, Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy said.
During the meeting, the President reviewed efforts to develop the Egyptian Knowledge Bank and enhance the process of education and scientific research, especially by providing more scientific resources and distinguished educational and training programmes in all fields for all groups and ages.
This comes in a way that enhances its important role in more than one direction, including contributing to the upgrading of the classification of Egyptian universities, institutions and research centers at the international level.
The President urged maintaining intensive effort to advance the higher education sector and raise the academic and research level of Egyptian universities and institutes, stressing that the issue of education receives great attention from the state and considers it a top priority to build the Egyptian cadres and prepare them scientifically in accordance with relevant world standards.
The President also gave directives for maximizing the benefit from the Knowledge Bank, in light of the unique and enormous possibilities it provides for learning and training and making all branches of science and knowledge available to Egyptian citizens, spokesman Fahmy said.
Also considered during the meeting was the progress of action to establish alliances between higher education institutions and the various economic entities in each part of the country, with the aim of achieving a development boom nationwide and strengthening scientific and research cooperation between universities and the industry and business community.
In this connection, emphasis was placed on the continuation and strengthening of the twinning process and partnership between Egyptian universities and renowned universities abroad, spokesman Fahmy said.
Efforts to establish and operate community and technological universities in various governorates of the country were also reviewed during the meeting.
In the presentation he made during the meeting, the higher education minister outlined the efforts under way to develop and raise the efficiency of university hospitals and their role in providing health services nationwide.
