Egypt’s leader urges diplomacy to resolve regional conflicts, warns against attempts to ignite tensions in Nile Basin, Horn of Africa
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, has reaffirmed that Egypt will carry on honoring sacrifices of martyrs, and remain committed to protecting the nation’s security and stability.

Addressing the 43rd Educational Symposium of the Armed Forces, held as part of Egypt’s Martyrs’ and Veterans’ Day celebrations at the Al-Manara International Convention Centre, President Sisi emphasised that remembering Egypt’s martyrs renews the nation’s commitment to the values of sacrifice, loyalty, and dedication.
“This day renews within us the meanings of gratitude and loyalty, and revives the values of sacrifice and dedication demonstrated by men who gave their lives to defend the homeland,” President Sisi said, adding that: “They preserved the dignity and stability of this nation so it can continue its path of development and progress.”
The president further reaffirmed Egypt’s enduring commitment to the families of martyrs and those injured in military operations, stressing that the nation remains proud of their sacrifices and will continue to honor them across generations, Presidency Spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy,said.
Addressing regional developments, President Sisi warned of the grave humanitarian, economic, and security consequences of the ongoing conflicts in the region, emphasising the importance of dialogue and diplomacy.
“No settlement without dialogue, no solutions without negotiation, and no peace without understanding that guarantees security and protects peoples from the devastation of war,” Sisi said.
On the Palestinian cause, the president reiterated Egypt’s firm stance that achieving lasting peace requires justice and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“There can be no peace without justice, and no stability without an independent Palestinian state,” he stated, adding that attempts to displace the Palestinian people from their land remain a red line that Egypt will never allow to be crossed.
President Sisi also called for accelerating humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza while launching a serious political process to achieve a comprehensive and lasting settlement.
He further warned against attempts to ignite tensions in the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa, and stressed that such actions would have serious repercussions for regional stability.
Despite regional challenges, the president affirmed that Egypt’s economy remains resilient, noting that the country had previously incurred losses approaching $10 billion in Suez Canal revenues due to the escalation of the Gaza war in October 2023.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials, including Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, ministers, parliamentary leaders, and commanders of the Armed Forces.
During the event, President Sisi honored a number of families of martyrs and injured servicemen, reaffirming that their sacrifices will continue to inspire Egypt’s path toward unity, development, and a stronger future.
In conclusion, the president reflected on the sacred status of martyrs in Islam, quoting the Qur’anic Verse: “Do not think of those who were killed in the way of God as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.” (Surah Aal-Imran, 3:169)
