Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi received on Wednesday King Abdullah II of Jordan at Cairo International Airport.
The two leaders held extensive talks, during which they stressed the importance of continuous coordination to unify their countries’ stances in the light of the critical circumstances of the Middle East region, Egyptian Presidency Spokesman, Councilor Ahmed Fahmy, said.
President Sisi and King Abdullah also welcomed the humanitarian truce declared in the Gaza Strip earlier on Wednesday.
They affirmed their common vision regarding the necessity of maintaining efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire, and allows sufficient humanitarian aid to enter Gaza without delay, within the framework of international laws and the resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian and Jordanian leaders rejected what they called the intentional starvation and collective punishment of the Palestinians.
They confirmed their countries’ complete rejection of attempts to displace the Palestinians outside their land.
President Sisi and King Abdullah also reviewed their two countries’ efforts to communicate with all international players to support the Palestinian people.
They called on the international community to make the best use of the current truce to deliver as much relief aid as possible to the people of Gaza to alleviate their humanitarian tragedy.
Any efforts to restore stability in the region must aim at reaching a comprehensive and just settlement of the Palestinian issue through the two-state solution, the two leaders said.
They highlighted the Palestinians’ legitimate right to establish their own independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
