The State Information Service (SIS) announced that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is poised to command unprecedented global media coverage.

The Head of the SIS Diaa Rashwan confirmed that hundreds of international television channels, networks, and media platforms are scheduled to broadcast the event live, reaching hundreds of millions of viewers eagerly awaiting this historic cultural, tourist, and archaeological landmark.

The global significance of the opening is further underscored by the confirmed participation of a large contingent of world leaders, high-ranking officials, and prominent cultural and media figures from across the international community.

Regarding the immense logistical effort to accommodate the press, Rashwan detailed the extensive accreditation process.

The SIS granted media accreditation to 450 correspondents representing 180 international media outlets, a figure that includes both foreign correspondents permanently based in Egypt and international journalists who traveled specifically to cover this major occasion.

This vast international interest is evidenced by the breakdown of organisations, which includes 70 European outlets, 24 American media outlets, 30 Asian media outlets, and 48 Arab newspapers, television channels, and websites.

Rashwan also emphasised the high caliber of the attending press, noting that the coverage involves 70 of the world’s largest television channels and networks and 35 of the most influential international news agencies, in addition to countless newspapers and news websites.

To ensure the widest possible broadcast, Rashwan stated that the SIS, in collaboration with relevant state institutions, is providing free live streaming to thousands of international television channels, allowing them to carry the opening ceremony and associated events.

This effort is complemented by the SIS’s support for the hundreds of photographers and media personnel accompanying the various world leaders and official delegations.

Crucially, the SIS established dedicated operations rooms at its headquarters and at the Press Center for Foreign Correspondents to offer comprehensive support, providing journalists with round-the-clock data and information to accurately convey the magnitude of the event.

Furthermore, in co-operation with the National Press Authority (NPA), the SIS is supplying foreign media with transcripts of exceptional coverage by local Egyptian outlets, including reports from French-language Al-Ahram Hebdo, English-language newspapers Al-Ahram Weekly and The Egyptian Gazette, and the Al-Ahram Online website.

Finally, the SIS is undertaking a critical tracking and analysis role, closely monitoring, tracking, and analysing the international media coverage of the GEM opening.

In closing, Rashwan offered high praise for the extensive and professional coverage provided by the Egyptian media, acknowledging that their efforts have been fully befitting this major national occasion, especially given that this domestic reporting is being widely disseminated by many foreign media outlets across the globe.
