Chairman of the State Information Service (SIS), the official media apparatus of the Egyptian state, Diaa Rashwan, said that world media follows closely and with great interest the role Egypt plays regarding current developments in the Gaza Strip since the start of Israeli attacks on this Palestinian territory on October 7.
International media, he added, also pays heed to Egypt’s humanitarian efforts, aiming at providing support to the residents of Gaza.
“International media also pays attention to the political and diplomatic efforts Egypt makes to ensure the delivery of Egyptian and international aid to the people of Gaza through the Rafah border post,” the website of SIS quoted Rashwan as saying.
He described the border post, which connects Gaza with Sinai, as the ‘only lifeline’ for the population of the coastal Palestinian territory.
He referred to the entry of humanitarian relief aid into Gaza through the Rafah crossing point and the exit of Gaza’s wounded victims into Sinai in preparation for their transfer to different Egyptian hospitals to receive medical treatment.
The SIS chief also referred to the exit of foreign nationals stuck in Gaza into Egypt from the same crossing point.
Egypt’s efforts, Rashwan said, receive appreciation in the humanitarian field internationally and against the background of the political efforts Cairo makes to halt Israeli aggressions and bring about a comprehensive political settlement to the Palestinian issue, one based on international resolutions and the two-state formula which seeks to establish an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalemas its capital.
Rashwan noted that his organization provides foreign journalists and media outlets accredited in Egypt with all facilities to carry out their work, including reporting Egypt’s efforts in the current crisis.
SIS, he said, provides foreign media with the information it needs from official Egyptian sources.
